Sill for Mac

Sill for Mac shares your windows with the Sill app on your iPhone and iPad. It’s free, and you get it here, not from the Mac App Store.

Latest release

For Mac computers with Apple silicon, on macOS 14 or later.

Download Sill for Mac

The version is in the release’s name on GitHub, with the checksum file Sill.dmg.sha256 beside the download.

Sill for iPhone and iPad

Free on the App Store, for iPhone and iPad on iOS 17 or iPadOS 17 or later.

Download on the App Store

Install

  1. Open Sill.dmg, if your browser hasn’t already. It’s in your Downloads folder.
  2. In the window that opens, drag Sill onto the Applications folder.
  3. Open Sill from your Applications folder. Then eject the Sill disk in the Finder’s sidebar and move Sill.dmg to the Trash.

Sill is notarized: Apple has checked it for malicious software, so it opens with a double-click. The first time, macOS asks whether you want to open an app you downloaded from the internet. Click Open.

The first time you open it

Sill lives in the menu bar at the top of your screen, not in the Dock. It opens its settings on Permissions and asks for two things:

If macOS asks whether Sill can find devices on your local network, click Allow. Then open Sill on your iPhone or iPad, tap your Mac and pair it once: scan the code your Mac shows, or type it. Over a USB cable, the two pair by themselves. Sill for iPhone and iPad is free on the App Store.

Check the download

To make sure your copy is the one published here, open Terminal, type shasum -a 256 and a space, drag Sill.dmg into the window and press Return. It should print the same SHA-256 as the release’s notes on GitHub and the Sill.dmg.sha256 file above.

Update

Sill doesn’t update itself, but it tells you when a new version is out: its menu and Settings say so, with a link to the release. To update, quit Sill from its menu, download the new version here and replace the old one in your Applications folder. Your settings and permissions stay.

Uninstall

Before you quit Sill for the last time, remove your devices in Sill’s Settings › Devices. Then quit Sill from its menu and move it to the Trash. The privacy policy says how to remove the settings and log it leaves behind, and what stays in your Mac’s keychain.
